Later he wrote about his time in Italy in A Farewell to Arms. It became the most famous novel about World War I. After the war, he continued to do exciting things. He caught animals in Africa, fought cows in Spain, and fished in the deep ocean. These experiences went into his stories. Hemingway wrote about many amazing things. However, he believed in keeping his writing simple and true.

(M) Good morning, my classmates. My name is Luis and I’m from Cuba. I left Cuba and came to the United States to attend high school last year. Now I’d like to tell you something about my country.
Cuba is in the northern Caribbean where the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It covers an area of 42,800 square miles. The island of Cuba is the 17th largest island in the world. And the average temperature is 21°C in January and 27°C in July. Most of Cuba’s rain falls from May to October.
Cuba’s capital city is Havana. The most popular sport in my country is baseball. And there are so many doctors in Cuba that they are often sent to other countries that are short of doctors.

My best friend Jan moved to Guangdong from Shanghai two months ago because her parents changed their jobs. Last Sunday I received her letter and she shared her feelings about her new school life there. When she went there from Shanghai, she didn’t know anyone and she couldn’t understand Cantonese. It was like walking into a stranger’s house. She felt lost when she went to her new school.
Luckily, her new teachers and classmates are very kind and friendly. Her teachers always asked her whether she needed help or not and asked some of her classmates to help her practice speaking Cantonese. Thanks to her teachers and classmates, she is getting used to her new school life gradually.
